SRASACS expectations of Volunteer Counsellors
- Minimum Diploma in Counselling and/or Psychotherapy
- Minimum 6 months post-qualification face-to-face counselling experience (approximately 200 hours, which may include up to 150 hours whilst in training).
- Provide your own supervision
- Covered by your own professional indemnity insurance
- The ability to manage own caseload and maintain appropriate records, and to end with clients appropriately
- An understanding, and commitment to, working within an anti-oppressive framework
- An interest in the issues of sexual violence towards women and children
- Willing and able to practice in accordance to the BACP ethical framework and to SRASACS policies and procedures
- An understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries and possess the ability to maintain them
- A commitment to personal development, which may include personal therapy
- An understanding of the voluntary sector
