Sheffield Rape & Sexual Abuse Counselling Service (SRASACS)

We have a number of volunteering opportunities available.

Volunteer Help Line Staff
We need women to answer our telephone helpline at different times during the week. We offer phone line staff group supervision, support from a link worker and ongoing training. In return you will need to meet our criteria, successfully complete our in-house training programme, and agree to take on a regular slot on the rota.

Qualified Counsellors
We have volunteer opportunities for female counsellors qualified to Diploma level to work with women and girls on issues of sexual abuse, and/or sexual violence.

Some of the client work is long term, so we ask volunteers stay with us for a minimum of one year, and see 3 clients per week (further clients may be taken on with negotiation).

You will need to provide your own supervision.

We will provide in-house training, prior to taking on clients, focusing on the issues of Rape, Sexual Abuse, and ways of working within a woman-centred framework

Ongoing support will be available from counsellors experienced in this field of work; including a regular forum for meeting, and training evenings related to the field.

Opportunities available to female only in accordance with The Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1. We would like to encourage BAMER women to apply, as we are under-represented at present.

Placement Counsellors
We offer placements to student counsellors in the second year of their Post Graduate Diploma, subject to interview and completion of our in-house training programme. All counsellors agree to take on a minimum of two clients per week.

Management committee
Our management committee members are all volunteers and we are always looking for women from different backgrounds to join the team. In particular we would welcome women with fundraising experience and knowledge.

Other volunteer opportunities
We have other volunteers who help us in the garden, with cleaning and with administration.
