Sheffield Rape & Sexual Abuse Counselling Service was formed in 1980. We offer a variety of services to women who have been raped or sexually abused.
We believe that any form of sexual violence towards women is an abuse, based on power. The truth is women of all ages, race and backgrounds have been raped. Women and children can also be sexually assaulted by women or by more than one person, at any time in their lives.
We offer a FREE and confidential service to women and girls (aged 13 upwards) who have experienced sexual abuse and/or rape.
We ask women to make the referral phone call themselves. This means we only counsel women who have contacted us themselves. We do this so that women can make their own choice about coming for counselling, and can therefore begin to take control of their own healing process. However we take initial referrals from a range of services including GP’s, social services, support services etc.
Our counsellors have a wide experience including working with Asylum seekers, refugees, women who have experienced rape and sexual abuse in cults and domestic abuse.
We have links with Sheffield central health clinic - asylum seeker health, and Sheffield domestic abuse forum. We are members of the rape crisis federation and survivors trust and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, a national organisation for counsellors.
